Hey guys,

So I’m currently drowning in busyness and sleepiness, so I’ve decided to take another break from blogging to recover from the wave of a busy schedule. As you might have noticed from my lack of activity the last week or so, I haven’t had the pleasure of writing very much. With softball everyday for 2 hours after school, I’m really struggling to fit in everything I want to be doing, so I’m cutting out some things. I’ll still try to read all you guys’ posts, but I probably won’t be writing any of my own until next Wednesday hopefully.

Also, I’ve decided to cut down my posts to once a week on Wednesday because I keep finding my Friday posts to be lower quality and more rushed than my Wednesday ones. Sorry I’m cutting down but high school life is finally crashing into my at full throttle.

Hope to see you all soon!

PS, if you’d like to take a look at some of my other writings while I’m gone, you might like my tips for beginner bloggers, or my thoughts on age and growing up.

International Women’s Day

Yes, I know, a day late to the party, but schedules are important.

Yesterday I saw a lot of stuff all over twitter, youtube, from my friends, and the blogosphere about International Women’s Day.

I believe that this day is really important and should be more widely known because inequality is a big problem across the world of all. Countless  people disregard feminism as irrelevant, especially after America legalized women’s right to vote. But still there are countries in which girls are not provided with things they need for their first period, or they are left uneducated, or worst of all, they are sexually abused. And until all these problems are  fixed, it will continue to be an issue.

Men have always been seen as more powerful than women. Dont think so? Consider this, the root word of human is man. What about man made? All these words circling one word, and never are women mentioned. Instead of being seen as hardworking intelligent individuals they are left to be objects of beauty.

So now we’re into gender equality. Let’s break it down:

I thought that in her video about equality in bathrooms (below), Ingrid Nilsen addressed “gender” well. There are three parts to gender:

Gender Identity- what gender you feel internally

Gender Expression- how you choose to express yourself externally

Gender Orientation – who you are sexually/romantically attracted to

So gender equality does not only relate to men and women, but also transgenders, gays, bisexuals, and all of the people in between.

Equality meanings to have all the same rights, which to me, doesn’t sound so bad.

From my point of view, gender equality is not about women being better than men (which I’ve heard a lot of teens believe), but that everyone is equal in every way possible.

What are your thoughts on gender equality and international women’s day?

Thanks for reading!

Here are a couple of interesting things I found addressing this topic:

The Spirit Animal Award

Hey guys,

I recently got nominated by agirlwithnoworld (go check her out!) to do the Spirit Animal award. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve done an award, and I’m pretty sure I’ve missed like…. well, enough. But I thought, why not? So lets get into it!

The rules:

  1. Post the award picture on your blog.
  2. Write a short paragraph about yourself and what your blog means to you.
  3. If you could be any animal, what would you be?
  4. Pick ten nominees.

First of all, we all know I never post the picture, so lets move onto the paragraph.

I’ve only been a blogger for about 6 months (totally guess-timate). Outside of blogging I play softball, enjoy designing and drawing, and I am a nerd at heart. My blog is something that I use in lots of different ways, including to put my ideas out into the world, as well as just share my life with a couple of people. I find it to be a fun little writing exercise that I do twice a week that also gets me to do things like take photos and explore the world a little more.

I think if I were to be an animal I would be a platypus because they are funny and smart… and poisonous.

And then last but not least, the nominees… My least favorite part.

Certainly not ten… But I tried to nominate people that I haven’t (I think) nominated before.

Obsession Confession: February

Hey guys!

Sorry I didn’t post last Friday (and that I’m posting on Thursday) but I got very busy, and have two post planned for this week, so look for those!

I have become obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, which I mentioned in an earlier post. I’m only on season two (no spoilers!), but I’m loving it.

I also started watching the show Agents of SHIELD and I’m really enjoying that. Sadly once break was over I got really busy, so I haven’t gotten to watch anymore. No Season 2/3 spoilers!

I recently got a green field jacket from Gap and I’m looking forward to wearing it a lot. It’s a nice light jacket which is perfect for the spring or autumn seasons and it’s perfect to wear in cold rooms (which my school is).

Softball tryouts were this week, and I found out yesterday that I made the JV team at my high school, which is why I didn’t post yesterday! I’m super excited for this season!

I haven’t been listening to a lot of music recently because I’ve been so busy, but when I do have some spare time, I’ve been listening to Tom Rosenthal. My favorite song by him is Run for Those Hills, Babe. I love how he uses lots of different instruments, from piano to ukulele and his music is very chill and soothing. I would also recommend the song Years Years Bears which he sang with Dodie Clark.

I hope you’re all having a great day! If not I hope you feel better!

Midnight Inspirations into Daytime Crazyiness

I think I mentioned in my post last Saturday that it’s mid winter break, which has apparently really messed up my blogging schedule, and I’m sorry for that. I think that next week I should be back on my feet and posting only on Wednesday and Friday.

Anyway, onto the topic at hand.

Today I want to talk about something I have experienced at least twice in the six months… I have really weird organization kicks every couple of months that seem to start in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep, and continue into the next couple of weeks.

It usually starts with looking at cool ways to organize my desk, and then progresses into full on craziness. I start wanting everything in my life to be organized. I begin changing things and reorganizing, wanting to start bullet journalling or thinking I need yet another calendar in my room…

So I’ve decided to share with you what my desk area is currently looking like, and then maybe in a few months I can look back on this and realize my room looks totally different
(or not).

I have a white drafting table for a desk and a tall blue spinny chair to sit on. On my desk are all the materials I use most, including colored pencils, pens and pencils, sharpies, paint brushes, water color pencils and gray markers. I also have 3 small containers (on the right) with miscellaneous supplies like glue sticks, pencil sharpeners and tacks. The flat tray on the far left holds my current sketchbook, pencil case (for school) and any important documents.

DSC_0165Above my desk is my monthly calendar and a clipboard with important sticky notes such as things I need to buy, a to do list, and goals. I hand lettered my calendar (and yes, I know that February isn’t in the center… it’s bugging me to) . Important things like stuff I need to do or events I’m going to are colored with watercolor so they stick out. The boxes and outline of the calendar I made on word. (You can get it here).

Beside my desk on one side is a window as well as these two drawer things. On the left is a wooden shelf thing that I use to store paper, notebooks, and sketchbooks. Next to that is my main method of storage, a set of plastic drawers on wheels. It holds tape, paint, markers, pens and the extent of my art and office supplies.

On the other side of my desk is this board. Sadly I have to cover a couple of things for personal safety, but the rest is either stuff I drew/hand lettered, found on the internet, or it was just laying around while I put this together and I thought it would look nice.

I hope you enjoyed that tour through my workspace, and maybe now you’re inspired to organize your life (but don’t go to crazy).

If you enjoyed this post, you might also like this post in which I discuss a couple of ways you can keep organized throughout a new year.

Don’t Worry I’m Alive

Yeah, I know, none of you were actually worried, but that’s okay. I’m currently laying in bed. Anyway….

So today I just kinda wanted to sit down and chat/update you.

I’ve been sick twice in the past two weeks, including having a horrible fever last night. I didn’t get much sleep (plus I just felt gross), but I’m feeling a lot better now, hence me writing a post on Saturday instead of Wednesday or Friday. *gasp* I didn’t follow the schedule!

Other than being sick, this past week was a little stressful because I had multiple projects/essays/tests, but now that break is here to save me, I can chill out and watch Grey’s Anatomy (if your a fan let me know!!! I’m only on season 2 but I am obsessed).

I’m learning HTML and CSS over the break, which I am really looking forward to (I know, I’m a nerd). Also, tryouts for the school softball team are in a couple of weeks so I’ll be taking a couple of batting lessons and stressing out over that. Oh, and I’m headed into the city next weekend (not telling you which one because you know… Safety) where I’m hoping to take some pictures, which means another Picture Perfect post. I guess it wouldn’t hurt if I stuck in a link to my last one…. 😉

Oh. And Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. I almost forgot. I actually was going to write a post about it, but L’s post pretty much sums it all up for me.

I’m running out of things to say, so I think this is the end of the post. I’ll talk to you all on Wednesday!
